
United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, June 23, 2006, that Valerie Manzella, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to thirty months of incarceration and three years of supervised release on her conviction of Passing a Counterfeit Check of an Organization Involved in Interstate Commerce.

United States District Judge Arthur Schwab imposed the sentence on Manzella, age 40, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway, Manzella passed a counterfeit check at a Shop N' Save in Kennedy Township in March 2003.

Ms. Buchanan commended the Financial Crimes Task Force of Southwestern Pennsylvania for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Manzella. The Financial Crimes Task Force of Southwestern Pennsylvania is comprised of United States Postal Inspectors, Special Agents of the United States Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Investigators from the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, and Detectives from the Allegheny County Police.
